Day 13 - Breaking Faith

Scripture:
"But He said to them, "Why are you fearful, O ye of little faith?" Then he arose and rebuked the wind and the sea, And there was a great calm." - Matthew 8:26

Have you ever noticed, when reading the word of God, how many times God tests a man’s faith? He will take a man’s faith to the brink of breaking before he rescues. Then he lectured them for being fearful and doubting. Why did he do that? He did that because he is the author and the finisher of their faith. (Hebrews12:2)

The Lord Jesus is the author, the developer, perfecter, and finisher of our faith. As the author he knows exactly what our faith will do. He designed it and gave it to us to use. He who designed it knows exactly where its breaking point is. He can bend it and bend it but it won’t break because he already knows how far is too far.

The Lord desires to continually prove our faith. Not to himself but to us. We don’t know what our faith is capable of accomplishing. So he designs the trials of our faith (I Peter 1:7) to test its strength. We, on the other hand, we get real nervous when our faith is bent beyond the limits of our expectations. We begin to cry out like the disciples in panic. "Lord save us!"

I used to think it was so unfair of the Lord, when after a crisis in the disciples life, he would rebuke them for their doubt. But you must understand that the faith that was being tested was strong enough to endure the test. It was the disciples who let go of their faith that ended the test not God. What kind of reward awaits the believer who endures the test of faith without begging God to end it before the test of faith is finished?

I wonder how much crying we are doing in the middle of our trial today? Do we think the pressure is more than we can endure? Do we think the pressure is going to destroy our faith? I think it would really surprise us what our faith can actually endure. Will our trial be cut short because of our crying? Will we hear a well done at the end or a "Why are you fearful, O ye of little faith"?

Let your faith be stretched one more moment I am sure it won’t break.
