Day 20 - Divine Calculations

Scripture:
"Likewise you also reckon yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive to God in Jesus Christ our Lord." - Romans 6:11

In order to fully understand our scripture selection today we need to understand the meaning of the word reckon. The word reckons is an accounting term. It means to calculate; a statement of accounts.

If I were to go to the bank today and make a deposit of $100.00 into my checking account; I would reckon from this day forward that there is $100.00 in my account. Not $99.00 or $101.00 but the exact amount of my transaction. The truth is I have it. It is a fact not a fantasy or a wish.

In Christ there are two indisputable facts that I must never forget. In Christ I am dead to sin and alive unto God. Period! As far as heaven’s ledger is concerned it is absolutely final. In Christ I died and in him I am made alive. It is not some false illusion but an absolute fact. "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." Galatians 2:20

In life if I miscalculate my bank account (I know none of you have done this) I am in danger of making an over draft. When I do this I have failed to correctly reckon my account. I can do the same thing in the spirit. I need to properly reckon what God has deposited in my account. I must not listen to the enemies lies but believe the heavenly record instead.

Everyday I need to reckon this to be true. In Christ I am dead to sin yet alive unto God. I do not reckon upon this in the hopes of obtaining this standing with God. I must resolutely comprehend that this transaction has already been completed in Christ. Therefore I reckon it to be so.
