Day 21 - Divine Limitation

Scripture:
"And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed. - II Kings 4:6

God has elected to limit His power to our capacity. His power is limitless yet it can be limited by our capacity. Such was the case in our scripture verse today. The miracle oil continued to flow as long as there were empty vessels to pour it in. When there were no longer empty vessels, the flow of oil was stayed. Why did the oil stop?

God who freely pours out of his abundance to our needy condition is not a God of waste. He is generous but not wasteful, there is a difference. When we have reached our capacity, God doesn’t keep pouring and pouring. As long as we find room he continues to pour. The lesson we must learn is to always be empty containers. If we never stop coming to God with empty vessels then His limitless blessing never ceases to flow. The moment we stop being needy and become satisfied the blessings from heaven cease.

We exert much time and prayer pleading with God "pour out, Oh God, pour out your blessings upon me" as though he would refuse to give. Our prayer effort would be better served if we just worked at being empty and needy. The fountain of God’s limitless blessing has a faucet that can be open or closed. As long as there is an empty vessels under the faucet, the fountain will flow. God turns off the faucet when there are no empty vessels to fill.

Are you empty today? or have you become satisfied? Maybe you need to spend a little time today looking for more vessels in your life that need filling.

Here is a closing thought. The mighty river of God’s abundance can be dammed by a few boulders of satisfaction.
