Day 22 - Doing God's Will

Scripture:
"Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God, He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second." Hebrews 10:9

Jesus did not come to this earth at the time he did because it was the period of man’s greatest need. He came when he did because it was the time appointed by the will of his Father. Jesus set out to always please the Father by being obedient to his will.

"For God so love the world that he gave us his only begotten son" John 3:16. God so love us that he gave us Jesus. Jesus so loved his Father that he obeyed. Oh yes, he gave himself as a ransom, but it was out of love for doing his Father’s will more than a burning love for us. Jesus loves us, don’t misunderstand me. But it wasn’t his love for us necessarily the held him to the cross. It was his love to do his Father’s will. Jesus loves us don’t ever doubt that. But his desire was to do the will of him that sent him. That was his sole passion.

Jesus is our example. How many of us, are do things simply because we believe that the people in our lives need it and not because it is the will of God? Are we being diligent servant because the people we serve need us or because it is the will of God?

The will of God may sometimes offend our friends, family, or business associates. Jesus obeyed his Father’s will and his disciples were put through much distress for it. In fact one follower had to carry his cross. I am so glad that Jesus didn’t reason himself out of doing the Father’s will aren’t you?

The decisions we make in life, whether in ministry, family or business, should be made with the will of God in mind. God’s will should not be evaluated, measured and decided upon according to the consequences that others might experience. We should not love others more than we love God. Jesus said "if you love me you will keep my commandments." Sometimes our obedience to the will of God, causes others to suffer and sometime obedience causes us to suffer. But the important thing is that we obey and love doing so because we love Him. "I delight to do thy will, O God...." Psalms 40:8

We may be tempted to disobey the will of God because what he asks us to do. It may not seem to be the loving thing. We may sometimes be deceived into thinking that the will of God will always be compassionate and considerate of others in our lives. Especially those who may be effected by our obedience. Many have walked in disobedience thinking this way. It may seem at first to be an insensitive move but in the end we always find that doing the will of God is always right. Only after we have obeyed do we discover that God has designed a compassionate plan for others in the process .

Are we set to obey his directive? Or are we only set to do what is pleasing in our eyes, or in the eyes of others?

Make this your pray today. "Lo, I come to do thy will ,O God".
