Scripture:
"......For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." So we may boldly say: "The Lord is my helper; I will not fear, what man can do to me?" -
Hebrews 13:5-6
When we fully understand the implications of what God has promised it will change the way we think. God declares to his children the he will never leave them nor forsake them. That is more than rhetoric. It is a fact. Knowing this (really knowing it) will revolutionize our thinking.
Hebrews 13:5 & 6 clearly illustrate an important spiritual sequence. The Lord declares his pledge of fidelity and we in turn boldly declare our confidence in what he has told us. The Lord has pledged his faithfulness. Do we believe it? Are we truly confident in his commitment to us? The test of our trust is in our confession in the face of our daily crisis.
Let’s look at this bold declaration, "The Lord is my helper." This declaration is an authoritative and confident confession. The word helper is an active word. A helper is not a disengaged bystander or passive observer. On the contrary a helper is an aid, an assistant, a colleague, a backer, and a co-laborer.
When we completely understand and believe what God has promised us we can be bold in the face of every adversity. We can be confident that God will not just stand by us as a far off observer but as one who is ready and willing to pitch in and help in our darkest moments.
In light of this let us boldly declare. "The Lord is my helper. Therefore, I will not fear." The Lord is pitching in, providing aid, imparting strength and rendering his support in every situation I encounter."
