Day 30 - Fullest Praise

Scripture:
"He looked upon Jesus as he walked, and said ‘Behold the Lamb of God.’ " John 1:36

How tragic it is to view and measure a persons worth in terms of what the do. We all are guilty at times of measuring people that way. We ought to measure a man simply by who he is and not by what he does.

All of us desire to be measured by the standard of who we are rather than by what we do. We all want to be accepted by the merits of our character rather than our performance. Tragically, however, we have at times fallen into the snare of seeking the acceptance of others by merit of our performance. The temptation of this kind of thinking can be great especially, in a competitive community.

Unfortunately, we often find ourselves measuring the worth of the Lord Jesus only by the merits of his performance. That is if he continues blessing us and giving us he graces we find praise for him easy. We expect him to perform perfectly (of course he always does even if we do not perceive it) On the other hand if he doesn’t perform according to our expectations we quickly lose our ability to express praise and appreciation.

The Lord Jesus is worthy of our praise and appreciation on the basis of who he is and what he has done. By performance he is indescribable. Words cannot express the awesomeness of his performance in purchasing our redemption. But he is more than our Redeemer and Lord he is God. Worthy of praise alone for who he is.

We therefore should render our praise, honor and adoration worthy of who he is and what he has done. It would be terribly inappropriate for us to praise him only on the merits of what he has done. Let us be faithful to render unto him our fullest praise for both what he has done and who he is.
