Scripture:
"That He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish." - Ephesians 5:27
The Lord through the work of the Holy Spirit and by the word of God is accomplishing something rather glorious for the church. Although now we don’t necessarily see it, one day he will present her to himself in glory and splendor.
It will be a church without spot. Spots have much to do with history. Spots and scars are reminders to us of past failure (accidents or errors). Failures of our past leave lasting marks upon us. Yet the washing of the word dissolves the stains of our past. The glorious church will be unspotted by her past failings because of the cleansing of the Word.
Wrinkles are a result of the aging process. With age comes wrinkles and wrinkles remind us of our mortality. With age comes weakness. We are not able to do what we once did. However, the washing of the word renews the church. Although she has aged, her youth is renewed like the eagle. She can run and not be weary and walk and not faint. Though she has aged she shall be presented to her husband with the radiance of her youth.
Finally she shall be without blemish or blame. The word of God washes her so that she can walk without fear of accusation from her enemy. She shall walk before her husband (Christ) blameless. The handwriting (certificate of her debt) has been blotted out. Not just covered over but removed. Her debt, paid in full by the Lord who redeemed her.
It is a church without scars to remind her of her failures. Without wrinkle to make her feel useless, undesirable and powerless. Without blemish (blame) which causes her condemnation. All this was and is being accomplished by the continual washing of the Word of God.
Let the Word of God wash away the scars of your history. Let it renew your youth like the eagles and let it blot out the handwriting that has been against you. Be a glorious Church today.
