Day 7 - Worry: Bad Fertilizer

Scripture:
"Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?" Matthew 6:25

Worry is to focus all our attention upon circumstances and things rather than upon God and his promises. Circumstances call for our attention all the time and if we are not careful they will cause worry to occupy our thought life. The more we fix our attention on conflicts, afflictions and uncertainties the less we dwell upon God. Jesus said that to do this was an exercise in futility.

Do you know that worry is not a fertilizer? In fact the more you spread it the less things grow. Worry has many times strangulated the seed of possibility amidst the soil of impossible circumstance. Worry will not cause anything to grow nor make them better. Faith in God and his word, on the other hand will. If you must spread anything on your situation why not spread faith instead of worry. Faith in God is a far more effective fertilizer than worry.

There are times that you may argue saying "I am not worrying". But do you take allot of thought? Can your thorough reasoning make things better? Will much thought improve your situations and resolve your dilemmas?

Jesus said, ".... for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things." and again he said "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matthew 6:32-33 Without agonizing in thought, without wringing your hands in worry, things will just happen when you seek first the kingdom of God. This is far more productive than worrisome thinking.

The next time you are tempted to let your situation occupy your thought life just remember my fertilizer illustration. Anything you spread on your situation that isn’t saturated with faith in God is just stinking thinking.
