Scriptures on Giving
- 1 Chron 29:1-9 King David said to the whole assembly…"The task is great, because this palatial structure is not for man but for the LORD God. With all my resources I have provided for the temple of my God - gold…silver…bronze…iron…wood…onyx… turquoise…stones…marble…all of these in large quantities. Besides, in my devotion to the temple of my God I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the temple of my God, over and above everything I have provided for this holy temple…Now, who is willing to consecrate himself today to the LORD?" Then (following David's generous example) the leaders of families, the officers…the commanders…and the officials…gave willingly. They gave toward the work on the temple of God…gold…silver… bronze…and iron. Any who had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the temple of the LORD…The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD. David the king also rejoiced greatly.

In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all…Everything comes from you…"
- 1 Chron 29:14-16 (David's prayer after people gave generously to a building project) "But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. We are aliens and strangers in your sight, as were all our forefathers. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope. O LORD our God, as for all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name, it comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you."

If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.

In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.

As she was going to get it, he called, "And bring me, please, a piece of bread." "As surely as the LORD your God lives," she replied, "I don't have any bread-only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it-and die." Elijah said to her, "Don't be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small cake of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD gives rain.'"
