Devotions Today from the Psalms

Psalm 19 - NKJV

Creation Praises God. Do You?
1 The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. 2 Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge.

3 There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. 4 Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world.

In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun, 5 Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, And rejoices like a strong man to run its race. 6 Its rising is from one end of heaven, And its circuit to the other end; And there is nothing hidden from its heat.

The Law of the Lord
7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; 8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; 9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.

Secret Sins
12 Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. 13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression.

The Meditation of my Heart
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.

All Creation Declares His Glory
Part 1 - All of Creation
Part 2 - The Law of the Lord
  Part 3 - Secret Sins
Part 4 - Meditation of My Heart

There are lots of things to think about here today. David said, "My meditation of him shall be sweet." (Psalms 104:34) That's the way I feel when I read such a rich Psalm as this. The Psalms help me meditate on the Lord. I muse on the Lord. Psalms 143:5 "I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands."

The Meditation of My Heart
"The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. Who can know it?" (Jeremiah 17:9) There is an old computer adage, "Garbage in, garbage out." What you meditate on, what you think, about has an effect on you. You may not think so, but it does. God says so. "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." () You may look pretty good on the outside to all the other people in your life, but God looks on the heart. Its what's inside that counts.

Meditation is not just a spiritual exercise. It is not just what you do in your devotions. Meditation is anything you mull over in your mind. It could be a scene from a book, a movie, a TV show, a conversation you had, a person you coveted or lusted after. Meditation is a powerful master. You are what you think. And what you think makes you what your really are on the inside.
