Psalm 20 is one of my all-time favorites. It is a Psalm of blessing. In Israel great power was placed on the ability of one to pronounce a blessing on another. Numbers chapter six contains just such a blessing that God commanded the priests (Aaron and his sons) to give to the people.

Numbers 6:22-27
22 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 23 Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them, 24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: 25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: 26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. 27 And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.
Psalm 20 is another of those blessings. We need to understand the biblical principle that God longs to bless us. In Lamentations he says,
The Lord waits to bless us. He longs to bless us. His nature is that of a Blesser.
May the Lord…answer!
May the LORD answer you when you are in distress;
May the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
May he send you help from the sanctuary and
May he grant you support from Zion.
May he remember all your sacrifices and
May he accept your burnt offerings. Selah
May he give you the desire of your heart and
May he make all your plans succeed.
We will shout for joy when you are victorious and
We will lift up our banners in the name of our God.
May the LORD grant all your requests.
There are eight "may the Lord…" expressions in this passage.
1) Answer you when in distress.
2) Protect you by his name.
3) Send you help from his sanctuary.
4) Grant you support from Zion.
5) Remember all your sacrifices and accept your offerings.
6) Give you the desires of your heart.
7) Make all your plans succeed.
8) Grant you all your requests.
MAY HE DO SO FOR YOU TODAY!
