Psalm 39

Psalm 39
Number Our Days

"Teach me to number my days." Psalm 90:___ , is repeated here in v4-7. It appears to be a Psalm within a Psalm as it seems so detached from the rest. Let's focus just on that section.

Life goes by quickly; hours turn into days, days to weeks, weeks to months, months to years, years to decades, decades to generations, generations to a lifetime.

David seems to have a handle on the brevity of life. He wants to get the most out of it. He does that by frequently returning to muse on God and time, and the short span of our lives in the light of God's eternality.

Ps. 90:4 "A thousand years are as one day in your sight."

Ps. 90:10 "The length of our days are 70 years, or 80 if we have the strength. They pass quickly and we fly away."

OK. Apply that truth. If you live to be 70 how many years do you have left? If 80, how many? You may die suddenly at 40, 50 or 60. What is your life plan? What do you want to accomplish in your life? What legacy do you want to leave behind? What do you yet want to do that you have not done?

Write it down. Think on it. Pray about it. Plan on it.
