Children's Bible Reading It is not easy for a child to read through the Bible nor to sit and listen to long passages being read. We recommend that if you have children in your home that you read daily one story from Ken Taylor's "The Book." Ken Taylor is the translator of the Living Bible. He did that while commuting by train to and from work so that his children would understand the Scriptures. The children will be catch up to us this week! Monday - 120. King Ahaz Closes the Temple (2 Chron 28-29) Tuesday - 121. A Holiday in Juday (2 Chron 30-31) Wednesday - 122. God's Angel Destroys the Enemy (2 Chron 32) Thursday - 123. The Savior Will Come! (2 Chron 32) Friday - 124. King Josiah and the Lost Book (2 Chron 34-35) Saturday - 125. Jeremiah Writes a Sad Letter (2 Chron 36) Sunday - 126. Jerusalem Is Burned (2 Chron 36) History: 2 Chronicles is not as boring as 1 Chronicles but it is a close second. There is certainly more story formate and content to 2 Chronicles than you found in the first book. The main point of this book is WORSHIP. We can learn a lot about worship and what pleases God through studying and meditating on effective and ineffective worship in 2 Chronicles. You will often find yourself thinking "Deja vous?" Didn't I read this before? That is because much of Chronicles repeats the stories of the books of the Kings. Why? Of particular importance to the believer is the idolatry and backsliding of the people. How often generations lost their desire for the Lord and became enamored with other things. They became lovers of other gods, riches, things, and pleasures more than lovers of God. So the Lord warns us not to fall into the same evil ways. We certainly are not tempted to worship gods of wood and stone, but we can easily be absorbed into the ways of the "world" -- "Love not the world neither the things of the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh (sexual desires), the lust of the eyes (desire for more money & things), and the pride of life (the pride of ownership), is not of the Father, but is of the world." (1 John 15-17) Idolatry is in the heart. God judges the interior of man, his thoughts, his cravings, his attitudes, and his deepest desires. Questions to Ponder: What was Solomon's sin? What was Solomon's punishment? What does that teach us about our sins? What was Hezekiah's sin?
