Children's Bible Reading It is not easy for a child to read through the Bible nor to sit and listen to long passages being read. We recommend that if you have children in your home that you read daily one story from Ken Taylor's "The Book." Ken Taylor is the translator of the Living Bible. He did that while commuting by train to and from work so that his children would understand the Scriptures. The children will be catch up to us this week! As we read through the book of Deuteronomy they will be completing the stories of of Numbers. Monday - 50. Aaron's Amazing Stick (Numbers 15-18) Tuesday - 51. Moses' Disobedience (Numbers 20-21) Wednesday - 52. Balaam's Donkey Speaks! (Numbers 22-24) Thursday - 53. Curses Turn to Blessings (23-24) Friday - 54. Almost There! (Numbers 25-36) Saturday - 55. Moses' Last Words (Deuteronomy 33) Sunday - 56. The Cities of Safety (Deuteronomy 19) History: Deuteronomy resumes where Numbers left off. The people wander for 40 years for disbelieving after all that God had done for them. The are now in the Plains of Moab (look it up on a map) poised for invasion of the Promise Land. The laws of Moses were rehearsed and expounded for this new generation. Deuteronomy contains the last words of Moses in the final week of his life. Moses too is not allowed to enter the promised land. (Do you remember why?) Before Moses death he emphasized to this next generation to obey the Lord fully, not just in part, and to follow Him wholly with willingness of heart. Promises Though the Law is rehearsed in the ears of the Israelites, so are the wonderful promised of God. There are promises for HEALING, for your HOUSE, for your FINANCES, for your FAMILY, for victory over the ENEMY, for PROSPERITY, for TITHING, for the MESSIAH JESUS, There are also an abundance of commandments that are lifelong "principles" upon which to build your life and home. See what Jesus said about building upon the principles of His Word in Matthew 7:24-27. There are many commandments with promise. I LOVE CHAPTER 28 ! ! ! What wonderful and fantastic promises of blessing on every side. The command and promise, "You shall be the head and not the tail" is a promise that all God's people need to grab hold of. This week while you read through Deuteronomy have a pen handy to mark your Bibles. Mark especially those promises of God that give you and the principles of obedience. These are "WORDS OF THE COVENANT" not just tedious laws without purpose.
