Walk Thru The Bible Exodus 21-40 One of the purposes of Exodus is to show us that God calls his people out of the world into a new kind of kingdom, and a personal relationship to him. In so doing God introduces himself to his people as a God of justice who will not tolerate sin. In spite of Israel's sin God's grace shines through. God's grace and love is greater than our sin. Look for the many "commands" that God gaves to his people. Some are ceremonial and religious, and some are eternal principles for all people of all ages. Can you tell the difference? You might want to mark them with a yellow highlighter to make them forever stand out. If you missed any reading or if you only read one or two chapters per day make up for lost time by reading for an hour on the Lord's Day. Children's Bible Reading It is not easy for a child to read through the Bible nor to sit and listen to long passages being read. We recommend that if you have children in your home that you read daily one story from Ken Taylor's "The Book." Ken Taylor is the translator of the Living Bible. He did that while commuting by train to and from work so that his children would understand the Scriptures. The children are still reading in Genesis but don't be alarmed, they will catch up. In fact this week they will get into Exodus. Monday - 22. Jacob sends gifts to Joseph (Genesis 43) Tuesday - 23. Joseph's Favorite Brother (Genesis 43) Wednesday - 24. A Big Surprise (Genesis 44-45) Thursday - 25. A Family Reunion (Genesis 46-47) Friday - 26. Jacob Blesses his children (Genesis 48-50) Saturday - 27. Exodus: A Princess Finds a Baby (Exodus 1-2) Sunday - 28. Exodus: Moses Runs Away (Exodus 2) History: The story of the building of the tabernacle is important for our understanding of God's perfection. He uses the tabernacle as a temporary resting place for his presence. Our bodies are tabernacles of his presence as well and deserve to be cared for with the same carefulness and sacredness. "What? Don't you know that your bodies are the temple of the living God." (I Corinthians 6:19) Whether it be sexual immorality, smoking a cigarette, taking drugs, or an alcoholic beverage we do harm and desecrate the temple of God. Treat you body as belonging to God (not to you) and you will honor God in your body. Questions and Answers: Have you ever seen the colorful children's puzzles called "Can you find Waldo?" They are usually very confusing pictures with many crowds of people and somewhere, here and there in the picture, you will find Waldo. In the same way God has given us a Waldo picture of Jesus in the Bible. Hidden in the stories and between the pages are pictures of Jesus. The founder of the Christian and Missionary Alliance knew this and wrote a series of commentaries on the whold Bible entitled "Christ in the Bible." As you read through Exodus this week be aware that hidden in its pages are pictures of Jesus Christ and of Heaven itself. Can you find Jesus? (HINT: There are at least 10.) The Rock, the Manna, the Serpent on a Pole, the Passover Lamb, the Sacrificial Lamb, the Scapegoat, the Great High Priest, the Mercy Seat, etc.
