Walk Thru The Bible Genesis 1-25 Genesis - The word means "beginnings." Everything begins here - the creation, the first man, the first sin, the first birth, the first death, first marriage, etc. As you read through the stories of the "beginnings" make note of the "firsts" Genesis is the foundation for the rest of the bible. Its characters and stories will be refered to throughout the rest of the bible. Genesis has many wonderful stories and characters to learn from. It also contains the first promises of God to his people. Be looking for "promises" that God gives to his people. You might want to mark them with a yellow highlighter to make them forever stand out. If you missed any reading, or if you only read three chapters per day, make up for lost time by reading for an hour on the Lord's Day. In fact an hour and a half every Sunday will make up for a whole week. Try it! Half hour before breakfast, half hour after lunch, and a half hour before bed. Children's Bible Reading It is not easy for a child to read through the Bible nor to sit and listen to long passages being read. We recommend that if you have children in your home that you read daily one story from Ken Taylor's "The Book." or some other children's Bible. Just the story indicated by the daily title. Monday - 1. God Makes A Wonderful World (Gen 1-2) Tuesday - 2. The World's Saddest Day (Gen 3) Wednesday - 3. The First Family Fight (Gen 4,5) Thursday - 4. Noah and the Great Flood (Gen 6,7,8) Friday - 5. A Huge Tower (Gen 11) Saturday - 6. God's Friend Abram (Gen 11,12,13) Sunday - 7. Abram Gets A New Name (Gen 13-17) Questions and Answers: Many questions arise regarding the beginning of the world. Did creation take just seven twenty four hour days? How do we reconcile that to the geological time chart taught in schools? Who did Cain marry? His sisters? Who were the sons of God that came into the daughters of men (Gen 6:2-4) Was the flood worldwide? What happened to the dinosaurs? Answers to these and many other questions can be found in a variety of sources, but I recommend "Answers" by Josh McDowell. Josh attempt to face head on these and many other questions that are often raised by college students and professors. Promises to Ponder: Promises come in two varieties. Conditional Promises: in which there is a condition "if" we will do something...God will do what he promises. Unconditional Promises: Which are based on God's goodness, faithfulness, and mercy. These have no conditions. They are statements from God that he will do something no matter what happens. Can you tell the difference when you see a promise? Conditional or Unconditional? Genesis 3:15 (Compare to Romans 12:) Genesis 8:21-22 (The Rainbow) Genesis 12:1-2 (Abrahamic Covenant) Genesis 17:7-8 (Compare to Galatians 3:17-20) Genesis 22:15-18 (Compare to Romans 4:20) Mark Your Bible: As you read keep notes, questions that arise, and comments on things God says to you as you read. A notebook for Bible study is real handy. In your reading or listening "search" for precious treasure of God's promises that you may claim for you life. Mark them in yellow high-lighter so they will be easy to find later.
