Children's Bible Reading It is not easy for a child to read through the Bible nor to sit and listen to long passages being read. We recommend that if you have children in your home that you read daily one story from Ken Taylor's "The Book." Ken Taylor is the translator of the Living Bible. He did that while commuting by train to and from work so that his children would understand the Scriptures. The children have caught up with us. Be sure to go with us to the Old Testament. It is important to follow the program together in order to encourage one another in our readings Monday - 57. A New Leader (Joshua 1-3) Tuesday - 58. Jericho's Walls Fall Down (Joshua 5-6) Wednesday - 59. A Thief Is Punished (Joshua 7-8) Thursday - 60. Joshua Gets Fooled (Joshua 9-10) Friday - 61. The Long Journey Ends (Joshua 18-21) Saturday - 62. The People Choose God (Joshua 22-14) Sunday - 63. God Keeps On Helping His People (Judges 3) History: Joshua is writing the history of the Promise Land. The Bible tells us that these things are written for our learning, that we should not make the same mistakes as they did. God takes the lives of his people Israel and their wanderings, successes and defeats and lets us learn from their mistakes. God wants his people to live in victory. Yet only too often sin, secret or outright, invades our lives and brings us tragedy and defeat. All that Joshua did illustrates the life of the believer and his victory in Christ and his defeat when he walks away from Christ. The name "Joshua" is the same Jewish name "JESUS." In Matthew 1 the angel of the Lord spoke to Joseph and pronounced that "HIS NAME SHALL BE CALLED 'JOSHUA' -- that is, Jesus -- for he shall save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21) Jesus is our Joshua (pronounced Yeshua). And that is the way Jewish people pronounce the name of Jesus even today. Jesus, our Yeshua, brings us into the Promise Land. Wonderful Things: (WTs) Joshua's book is full of wonderful things. A wonderful thing is something significant that the Lord did for Israel, that God can and will do for all of his people at any time or place. A wonderful thing is an amazing thing worthy of awe (wonder) and a thing to think about. When David wrote the Psalms he often used an expression "SELAH!" That word means "THINK ABOUT THAT!" As you go through the book of Joshua mark your bible at significant things that God did that you need to think about and reflect on. When you encounter such a WT mark the place with either a "WT" or the word "SELAH", so that you will be sure to pass by there again and think about the wonderful things that God has done, and still can do. SING TO THE LORD EACH DAY AT THE END OF YOUR READING: It is no secret, what God can do, What He's done for others He'll do for you. With arms wide open, He'll pardon you. It is no secret, what God can do,
