If you missed any reading or if you read only a few chapters per day make up for lost time by reading for an hour on the Lord's Day. Children's Bible Reading It is not easy for a child to read through the Bible nor to sit and listen to long passages being read. We recommend that if you have children in your home that you read daily one story from Ken Taylor's "The Book." Ken Taylor is the translator of the Living Bible. He did that while commuting by train to and from work so that his children would understand the Scriptures. The children have caught up with us. Be sure to go with us to the Old Testament. It is important to follow the program together in order to encourage one another in our readings Monday - 74. Samuel Hears God's Voice (1 Samuel 1-3) Tuesday - 75. Enemies Capture the Ark (1 Samuel 4-7) Wednesday - 76. The People Demand a King (1 Samuel 8-9) Thursday - 77. Samuel's Warnings (1 Samuel 10-12) Friday - 78. Two Men against an Army (1 Samuel 14) Saturday - 79. King Saul Disobeys God (1 Samuel 15-16) Sunday - 80. David Kills a Giant (1 Samuel 17-18) History: 1 Samuel We all fondly remember the story of David and Goliath. Could you tell the story without looking it up? Probably not. Time has a way of eroding facts and details from our memories. 1 Samuel could well be called the Adventures of David. As you read this week, note the stories as they unfold. Think how would you retell these stories to your children if we had no written word. What stories do you think are the most important? What lessons do we learn from the three main characters of 1 Samuel; Samuel, Saul, and David? A good help to reading is to remember to ask yourself the PEPSI : P = Is there a Promise to claim? E = Is there an Example to follow? (Or not to follow) P = Is there something for me to Pray about? S = Is there any Sin to avoid? I = Is there any Instruction to follow? (Or anything Interesting to look up and Investigate?) QUIZ: 1. Who was...Peninah? Hophni and Phinehas? Eli? Ichabod? Abinadab? Ekeazar? Kish? Agag? Nabal? Abigail? 2. What happened at...Shiloh? Ekron? Ebenezer? Gilgal? Endor? Gath? 3. What is a (an) Emerod? Fleshhook? Urim? SIGNIFICANT VERSES TO MEMORIZE: 1 Samuel 15:22b, 23 Rebellion as the sin of witchcraft. 1 Samuel 16:7b Lord looks on the heart. 1 Samuel 17:45, 46a, 47 you come to me with sword, spear, and sheild, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Hosts
