Children's Bible Reading It is not easy for a child to read through the Bible nor to sit and listen to long passages being read. We recommend that if you have children in your home that you read daily one story from Ken Taylor's "The Book." Ken Taylor is the translator of the Living Bible. He did that while commuting by train to and from work so that his children would understand the Scriptures. The children have caught up with us. Be sure to go with us to the Old Testament. It is important to follow the program together in order to encourage one another in our readings. Monday - 81. Saul is Jealous of David (2 Samuel 18) Tuesday - 82. King Saul Gets in Trouble (1 Samuel 28) History: 2 Samuel continues the story of David. At Saul's death David becomes King. How brutally honest is the Word of God about men's hearts. Jeremiah said,"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked, who can know it?" Even though David was the apple of God's eye, his heart was no different than that of any man. He failed God. He lied. He lusted. He committed adultery. He even participated in murder. Psalm 51 is David's repentant cry for God's forgiveness and mercy. How different that cry was from Saul's self justification. God, in his mercy, forgave all of David's transgressions. But forgiveness does not take away the pain of sin's consequence. David experienced all the results of his own sin. Remember Adam, Esau, Moses, and David. No amount of tears or apologies can erase the consequence of sin. "Be sure your sin will find you out." As you read this week feel with David as he struggles with life's pains. Though he was the king, yet he learned obedience from the things he suffered. QUIZ: 1.
